End of Year Recap and Plans For 2013   2 comments

Hello all! I hope your holiday season has been a happy one. I’ve been house-sitting, so lots of quiet writing time, just me and the cat.

This year has been filled with ups and downs and lots of waiting. For me, at least, much of the waiting is over. Spellwrought is not going to be published by PD Publishing. I don’t know if they have made any public announcements regarding the information they recently gave their authors, so I won’t go into detail, but suffice it to say that sometime next year the rights to both Spellwrought and Magebound will be returned to me and I can try to seek publication elsewhere. I’ll have to find a publisher that’s willing to accept a previously published work. I have a place in mind, so I’ll have to keep my fingers crossed. Until the paperwork is taken care of, Magebound will still be available to purchase and I’ll still get paid any royalties, so if you’ve been wanting to get a copy, you better act fast. I don’t know how long it’ll be around.

I’m not sure if I mentioned this already, but my e-book publisher has also, for all intents and purposes, closed shop. They’re not releasing any new material and most of my books have already been removed from the website. When those rights revert to me (if they haven’t already; I’ll have to check) I plan on trying to get Breach and my Suburban Fantasy series republished, but the other short stories I think I’m just going to rewrite them a bit (because I always find things I’d like to change or elaborate on when I reread a completed story) and throw them up on Smashwords to see what happens. Most likely I’ll set the prices at $.99 since they have been previously available.

It is disappointing to find myself without a publisher, but both companies had very good reasons for the decision they made and I understand and support them entirely. It couldn’t have been an easy choice to make and I wish everyone involved the best. They are some great people and I’m better off for having known them.

Anyway, since the world didn’t end on 12/21/2012, I guess I’d better make some plans for next year. 😀

1. Find a new publisher – I have to wait until I’m sure the rights have reverted, but I’m going to start making some private inquiries to writer friends soon.

2. Publish Broken Wings – I’ve always been a terrible procrastinator, and it seems like everything keeps distracting me from working on this.

3. Finish Moonlight – Same problem as BW.

4. Write new stories – I’m always writing, but I’ve been dabbling in different genres and posting on other writing sites. I did quit writing Person of Interest fanfiction…for about a month. Yeah, I fell off the wagon. But in my defense, the plot-bunnies were very persistent, showing up in hordes at 3 a.m. and demanding I write dragon-porn. How could I say no? If you think you might like some dragon/human smut, I’d recommend giving it a try. Even if you don’t watch the show, I think you could still follow the story enough to enjoy the dragon-porn. Here Be Dragons I enjoyed writing it so much, I’m probably going to take the idea and adapt it into an original story.

On the non-writing front, we did fantastic at our craft sale this year. I sold ten of my furry hats and got orders for half a dozen more. It was our best selling season since we started doing the sales fifteen years ago.

I think that’s it for this post. As always, I love reading your comments and will do my best to respond to them. At the very least, I’ll talk to you again near the end of January, and hopefully I’ll have some good news, or at least some hopeful news.

Wishing you all the best in the coming new year,
