When Roan Echarn, a young man with a terrible secret, accidentally steps off the train in Devaen, he is forced to put himself in the reluctant employ of Ishaan Darvis, a wealthy recluse whose tragic past is anything but secret.

Roan is an incubus–or rather, a victim of genetic incubism, forcing him to feed on sexual energy or die. Ishaan suffers from sexsomnia, a condition that causes him to seek out sexual encounters in his sleep, often with violent consequences. To prevent himself from hurting people, Ishaan must be locked in his room at night by a live-in employee–a dream job for a starving incubus, though Ishaan’s distrust and self-loathing makes him a less than ideal housemate.

As months pass and Roan continues to feed on Ishaan in secret, dislike slowly turns to friendship, and then to love. Their lives have never been more perfect, but Roan is haunted by the truth of what he is and by the lies he’s told Ishaan.

When a spring flood drives them from their home, Roan can’t keep his secret any longer. Can their love survive such a breach of trust, or will an unspeakable act of spite and revenge mean the end of their happiness?

Free Fiction Friday — A Crash-course in Kinsa-sitting

They say that all good things must come to an end, and so too must Free Fiction Friday–at least for a while. I’m getting ready to go back to work and I need to devote my time to some other projects that have been neglected recently, so this will be the last new short story for a while.

A Crash-course in Kinsa-sitting is a short adventure in pet-sitting starring Simon and Julian from my Suburban Fantasy series.

I also got some updated information from my publisher regarding Spellwrought. It’s been delayed a little due to a hiccup having to do with the cover art, but as soon as that is resolved, it will be out in no time. Right now, they are bracing for hurricane Irene, so I have them and the millions of people in the storm’s path in my thoughts and prayers.

Free Fiction Friday — Demon’s Law

Finally, Friday is here! It’s been a long week for me, but I survived, so here’s a little treat. Demon’s Law is a bite from a novel I hope to write someday (along with about a hundred others) so it probably feels a bit incomplete.

On a side note, I got all the edits of Spellwrought finished and sent back, so it could be a matter of days or a couple of weeks before it’s available at Amazon. I don’t know how long it takes or how busy my publishers are, so we’ll see, but it won’t be long now.
